Copyright infringement on YouTube - what to do?
This lesson in my YouTube course is about music rights infringement on YouTube. Royalty-free music or GEMA-free music is often a misconception, as copyright always exists, even if this isn't always enforced by a collecting society like GEMA.
YouTube itself has its own music available for download, the rights to which have been clarified for YouTube. However, channels often use music whose rights have not been clarified for YouTube, or there is a monetization agreement between YouTube and the collecting societies. In these cases, advertisements may be displayed before the videos. A portion of the advertising revenue then goes to the collecting society, and a small portion goes to the creator.
If you receive a complaint, you don't have to delete your video, but it's possible that your video will be blocked in some countries, or you'll see advertisements before it. This applies not only to music, but also to video clips to which you do not have the rights (e.g., sports or games).
