Sailing: A Skill Concept & RuneLite Plugin
UPDATE - May 18, 2023
Well, over 3 months later and we're in a very different situation than before. When this video originally released, a skill had gone through the polls but no specific skill had yet been announced (later to be Sailing, Shamanism, and Taming). Now Sailing's made its way up top and is in development - they even had a really cool tech demo to showcase earlier this week. And, surprisingly, they asked me to create video versions of their developer blogs to showcase each stage of development, the first of which is releasing today.
There's many things alike and unlike about the official pitch compared to this one. Similarities are hard to avoid when you're both iterating on the same theme of Sailing, while the differences are by no means insignificant - a very different (and much better) movement system is in the works, while new tech developments have reached a height that we never thought was possible even a week ago. And, I have to say, the official one is off to a far better start than any little fan project like this could've reached. That's a very good thing.
I'll be taking down the plugin shortly as I think both it and this video have served their purposes. We don't need a demo of a Sailing that's so much different than the official pitch to be causing extra confusion; it's hard enough to get players to converge on a single mindset without such distractions.
