At some point you need to leave the safe harbor of the Arduino board. We've designed an Arduino shield which lets you program a variety of AVR chips using the Arduino environment. This lets you put a $2 Attiny85 in a project instead of tying up your $25 Arduino. You don't need a dedicated programmer or to setup another AVR tool chain!
