Mechanically, a robot consists of a series of elements or links joined by joints that allow relative movement between each pair of consecutive links. The physical structure of most industrial manipulator robots bears some resemblance to the anatomy of the human arm; therefore, terms such as body, arm, elbow, and wrist are sometimes used to refer to the different elements that make up the robot.
