JustAnswer Customer: Whirlpool Duet electric dryer F23 error code / Gets very hot on every setting, including air-only.
JustAnswer Customer: Lint screen clean, vent clear, no obstructions.
JustAnswer Customer: Based on previous answers on here for other people, I have tried a new thermistor (Part #8577274) but still get the same problem.
JustAnswer Customer: It will run for a few minutes, getting hotter and hotter, then shut off with flashing F23 error.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Hello, and thank you for using this service.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: I'll be helping you with your problem today.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: If the dryer gets really hot on every setting and the thermistor is new, that means you either have a grounded out element, or a bad relay control board that will need to be replaced.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: You can't test the control board but you can remove the lower front panel and unplug the dryer.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Test continuity between one of the element terminals to the case of the element If the resistance is open, then the element needs to be ordered and replaced because it's grounding out.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: If the element tests good, then you need to replace the control board because it's just not reading the thermistor correctly.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: If there is anything else I can help you with today just let me know.

JustAnswer Customer: Thanks for your prompt response.
JustAnswer Customer: I will try that as soon as I can get to a multimeter.
JustAnswer Customer: Approximately how much are the parts, and how difficult are they for unskilled monkeys like me to fit?
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: The control board is rather expensive at about $200 or so normally, but element for Duet dryers I think is normally about $75.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: If you replaced the thermistor, the element isn't all that much harder, just a bit harder to access.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: The control board is mounted to the left panel above the drum so you access it completely different.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Just pull the dryer forward and unplug it.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: There are 3 screws coming in from the back of the top panel.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Remove these screws and the top panel will pull straight back, up, and off.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: The control board will be mounted to the left side wall of the dryer above the drum.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Sometimes there is a sheet metal cover over the control board so remove those screws first and remove the cover.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Then just remove the screws mounting the control board and swap over the wires from the old control board to the new control board.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Re-assemble everything and that should be it.
