Huge Crack in Lake Erie
Lake Erie is normally about half-frozen by now. But this year, with above-average temperatures, ice covers only about 8.8% percent of the lake, mostly in the shallow western basin.
Which means no ice-fishing yet. And Cleveland will continue to see lake-effect clouds and snow for the near future.
Across all five Great Lakes, the water is about 7.7% frozen. And on Feb 5, the lakes were only 1.3% frozen -- an all-time record for that date.
