Hey everyone! 🎸
Here is a note-for-note guitar cover of John Frusciante's legendary short improvisation (often called the "Bedroom Lick") from his famous 1990 VPRO Dutch TV interview.

The tab is 100% synced with the original recording thanks to Guitar Pro 8 (you can hear John's original guitar track in your right earbud to compare!).

🔍 Transcription Notes & Techniques

To capture Frusciante’s unique style, I’ve used a specific notation method:
Muted Notes (x): These indicate a percussive Palm Mute to choke the chord.

Chord Names: Visual guides for fingerings to help you anticipate the next shape.

Tuning Tip: I am tuned a half-step down, but with my tuner calibrated to 450Hz (instead of 440Hz). This reproduces that specific microtonal sound sitting right between standard tuning and a half-step down. We all know John Frusciante never really liked tuners anyway! :)

🎨 Inspirations & Context

Many fans suggest this riff is an alternative concept or early version of "Knock Me Down" from the Mother's Milk album, which they were promoting at the time. Either way, the Jimi Hendrix vibe is definitely there!

Note: The second part is tricky to transcribe because the guitar volume fades out into Flea's interview.
