Idle’s Joe Talbot joins Kyle Meredith to talk about TANGK, the band’s latest album that finds them looser, dancier, and teaming up with producers Nigel Godrich and Kenny Beats. The frontman discusses the intent the group enters each album with and having a purpose to their songwriting, as well as how he continues to connect to the emotions he creates while writing lyrics in the moment while on the studio mic. Talbot also dissects the bigger themes of the LP, which paints a picture of uncomplicated love and empathy, something he also keeps in mind when talking about opposing political beliefs, the war in Palestine, and the far right’s perception of his own progressive stance. We also get a picture of where the band may go from here, which could include Nordic techno-folk.
