Cem Toker: "This isn't peace, it's Trump's PR stunt"
Speaking on Meltem TV live, former Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Cem Toker described the agreement signed in Gaza as "not peace, but a ceasefire." Toker said, "The fact that the conflicting parties are not at the table already shows that this is not a permanent solution, but a temporary political stunt."
Toker stated that the agreement was signed "by Trump on behalf of Israel and by representatives of Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar on behalf of Hamas," adding, "Trump's 20-point plan is a PR stunt. There is no real will for a solution."
"Neither Hamas nor Netanyahu has shown any will for a solution"
Toker emphasized that no concrete steps have been heard from either Hamas or Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu:
"Hamas has not said it will lay down its arms. Netanyahu has not announced that he has changed his policies on Gaza. There is no intention of a two-state solution."
Toker, arguing that Trump's initiative was brought forward "with the ambition of winning a peace prize," said, "The goal is to score points in American domestic politics."
"The Middle East is being played like a chessboard"
Toker also extensively covered the Greater Middle East Project (GBP) in his statements. Noting that this project has "nearly 35 years of history," Toker stated that all US policy in the region is based on Israel's security.
"No Middle East policy is designed in Washington, but in Tel Aviv. Washington merely shapes it. While Westerners make long-term plans like chess, we play backgammon, playing whatever the dice land on."
Toker argued that the ongoing chain of interventions from Iraq to Libya, Syria to Iran, aims to redesign Israel's environment, claiming, "The PYD/YPG structure in northern Syria is Israel's ground army."
"Gaza has returned to the stone age, there is no victory."
Toker also highlighted the extent of the destruction in Gaza and criticized Hamas's rhetoric of victory:
"Gaza has returned to the stone age, 70,000 civilians have died, 20,000 of them children. How can this be called victory?"
"The idea of meeting with Öcalan cannot be sold to the public."
Toker also spoke about the possibility of a "commission visit to Abdullah Öc*lan," which was discussed as the second agenda item in the program, describing the initiative as "a step too large for the public to stomach."
"The AKP, MHP, and DEM have bitten off more than they can chew on this issue. The public does not support this idea."
"A new constitution is for Erdoğan's candidacy."
Toker also addressed the "new constitution" debates, expressing his view that this initiative aims to "ensure Erdoğan's re-candidacy."
"Whenever I hear the word 'new constitution,' I think of it as a project to enable Erdoğan's re-candidacy."
