In this video, we test a specialized device – a torque limiter – designed to prevent overtightening of wheel fasteners when using an impact wrench. The device is a chrome-molybdenum steel rod installed between the tool's drive and the impact socket.
It operates using the torsion effect: under impact load, the rod twists elastically, dampening and absorbing excess impact energy. This dampens peak loads, potentially reducing torque to values acceptable for wheel fasteners, theoretically up to 110 Nm.
During testing, the device is tested using a cordless impact wrench and a pneumatic impact wrench on a real threaded connection. The experiment clearly demonstrates how this dampening device behaves in real life and whether it can protect critical connections from damage caused by excessive force.
