Links to more relevant video's are in the textbox. I didnot test this circuit but I think the approach is good and other one tube AM radio's that I built in the past worked properly with this building method. You can also see the one tube radio schematic from my book "Retro Radio" to get inspired/use the 6088 tube. Correction: somewhere I say "cathode" when I mean "anode" ("connect it to a high voltage"). Forgot to tell:
-all wood must be varnished first with transparent glue for rigid PVC (smell acetone)
-when the radio oscillates too easy, reverse the connections from the backcoupling coil
-when it still oscillates too easy, wind off the windings from the backcoupling coil, e.g. go to 20 turns
-the output can be connected to a transistor amplifier. Replace the telephone by a resistor (2K-100K) and couple the radio signal out via a cap from 100 N
tuning must be done with two variable capacitors, one for tuning and one for feedback to set the radio on the edge of oscillation.
-the power supply must be completely (!) free of hum, if not you will only hear hum, and almost no radio stations. The hum-problem is less with modern triodes with a seperate filament and cathode. Though also a DC voltage/current to the filament is advised.
-the coil on the varnished toilet roll must be made with solid plastic isolated copper wire (see earlier video's, "telephone wire")
More electronics in my books on the Lulu website, author Ko Tilman.
In my book "Retro Radio" (Dutch! text) you will find more easy to make radio receivers, also for Shortwave (Superhet's). This book was Issued by Elektor international Media in the Netherlands (see website, search on "Retro Radio"). On the Lulu website is one booklet about a 2-10 MHz SW radio receiver (superhet), search for the author on the Lulu website.
