To play the T-1000 in Terminator 2, Robert Patrick was put through intense training to make him as machine-like as possible, starting with weapons training..
For the scene in the Galleria, Robert has to quickly fire and reload his gun without looking. It took lots of practice, but it's the fastest James Cameron has ever seen it performed by an actor. He puts it down to Robert's remarkable physical control and concentration.
To look like a machine, he also had to learn to fire a gun without blinking. Robert had to work with the weapons experts to find a way to do it, by looking into the distance at specific markers.
He also spent a huge amount of time on the running track to make it look as efficient and effortless as possible, focusing on nasal breathing while remaining expressionless. This made him very fast, but his blistering speed was a problem during filming…
On the first take chasing John Connor in the Galleria, he could actually outrun the motorcycle and caught up with him; which would have made a very short movie!
