Yale Russian Chorus: Otche Nash (Our Father). A setting of the Our Father prayer composed by Nikolai Kedrov Sr. (1871-1940) in 1920s while in exile in France and published posthumously there in 1949. Born into an ecclesiastical family, Kedrov studied singing at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Around the turn of the 20th century, he appeared professionally (as a baritone) with Mamontov’s Moscow Private Russian Opera, the Bolshoi and the Mariinsky, but was primarily known as a concert singer. For 30 years he was a member of a male vocal quartet that performed (and recorded) both in Russia and abroad. From 1923 the quartet was based in exile.
