This may or may not work for you. I have not tested this on ATI video cards. I do have a PC with an ATI card in it, but it is lent out,when I get it back I will be making how to video's on that pc as well.
I had to down grade my flash because I was getting multi color glitches on my desktop,and because the new flash sucks..Also I found that theres a bug with the music player "Clementine" It would make my desktop lock,passably a QT issue.
Install compiz con-fig settings manager "CCSM"
Go to genial options/display settings. uncheck detect refresh rate,check sync to vblank,and bump up your refresh rate.
Go to
system/preferences/startup applications
Add to the command:
compiz --replace --loose-binding
And give it a name.
Restart you system when done.
