Export, Import, and Migrate WSL and WSL2 Installations
This video will cover exporting, importing, and migrating of WSL and WSL2 distributions and customizing the location of the associated virtual hard disks. It is a continuation of “Windows Subsystem for Linux, WSL Installation on Windows 10, 11, and Server 2022.”
WSL = Windows Subsystem for Linux
TAR = Tape Archive
VHD/VHDX = Virtual Hard Disk
WSL Commands:
wsl --export (Distribution Name) (FileName.tar)
wsl --export (Distribution Name) (FileName.vhdx) --vhd
wsl --import (Distribution Name) (InstallLocation) (FileName.[tar,vhdx])
wsl --import-in-place (Distribution Name) (FileName.vhdx)
