Shortcut to draw a feather in photoshop
1) On a new layer use the brush to draw a tapered horizontal line, duplicate and flip it horizontally and put them end to end. Now draw a straight vertical line in the middle
2) Use the marquee tool and draw a box around your feather segment, then go to the edit menu and click on 'define brush preset'. hit ok.
3) select the brush tool again and get out the brush you just made. open the brush menu (f5) and in the brush tip shape menu rotate the angle 90 degrees and adjust the spacing until it looks appropriate.
4) now draw a straight horizontal line with your brush. Hit command t and rotate it 90 degrees, and then holding down command drag in the top 2 corners. Finally add a tip and a stem.
5) Now go to the filters menu and click the liquify filter. make sure youre using the forward warp tool, and slowly push the hairs of the feather up until it looks like you want it to. you can also bend the feather slightly side to side.
6) Have fun making feathers without driving yourself crazy drawing every hair! :)
