Aka Threshold of the Void.
If Jean Rollin directed The Tenant it might look something like Le Seuil du Vide. Based on Kurt Steiner's novel, the film is the feature debut of 25 year old director Jean-Francois Davy. Davy also co-wrote the screenplay with Steiner (who used his real name, Andre Ruellan, for his script credit).
Interestingly, Roland Topor, author of The Tenant, has a cameo in the film as a passenger that the lead character encounters on the metro. Sitting beside Topor on the metro is the films Continuity Supervisor/Script Girl, Nathalie Perrey, who would go on to work with Jean Rollin on many of his films.
