Today we are going to talk about how to sync audio in FCP .
Btw, please consider subscribing and giving us a thumbs up if you would like to see more of these tutorials.
Ok,
Some reasons why you would do this is to get better audio quality from audio recorder.
And example would be using your "Yetti Mic" to record audio in garage band then syncing it to your video.
Now before using this feature I use to just drop both clips in the time line and try and match the audio.
Now let me show how to do it automatically.
So I have a final cut project here .
In the browser I have my audio and my video clip
You need to make sure the video clip has the same audio for both clips to sync correctly.
So here you see my garage band audio clip that I used my yeti mic for and here is the video clip that has bad audio.
To sync these up, Select the audio clip and press command to select the video clip.
Right click and select “ synchronize clips “
The box will pop up where you will add 1. A name 2. Event , where you want to put clip 3. Starting time code if you want to start from a particular time. I’ll leave this to 0
You will see two check boxes . First one is just telling it synchronize our clips
And the second, is if you want to disable the bad audio and leave you with the good audio
You also have these “custom settings” for more advanced users.
I usually leave it on “ Automatic”
Now click “ OK”
Once you click ok, FCP will start rendering a new synchronized clip.
In your browser you will notice the clip has a “ link “ icon telling you it is a synchronized clip.
Now if we drag this to our timeline.
You can also click on the synchronized clip in your timeline and to the right in our inspector window under audio.
You will see the two dialogue clips. The “story line “ audio and the “ connected” Audio.
If you left the check mark on under “ disable audio components on AV clips “ during the first step then you will see the “ story line “ unchecked and disabled.
Now we have our video and audio synchronized.
