A tough oak for firewood
At the time when the tree was blown down the field was too wet and soft to be able to drive to the tree. When the ground dried up enough it was summer and I didn't want to deal with the heat and biting insects. More time passed by and it was again too wet to get to the tree. I finally managed to get my tractor to it this fall and logged it up and carried it to the house to finish cutting and splitting. Some of the smaller limbs had already started to rot so I did lose some of the wood.
I did manage to get around 5 ricks of firewood although not at the traditional 24 inch length. My fireplace insert can only take a maximum length of 18 inches.
