Power Distribution Modules or PDM's are starting to reach a price point where they are a cost effective wiring solution for club level motorsport.

A PDM such as the MoTeC shown replaces your conventional relays and circuit breakers, and electronically controls circuit switching and fusing current. This greatly simplifies the wiring harness, saving time, weight, and improving reliability. There are a variety of ways that the PDM can be controlled: For example a conventional two position switch can be used to switch an output on or off, an ECU or dash can switch an output with a CAN message, or they can be controlled via a CAN-based keypad.

The real power of a PDM comes from their control and logging capabilities though. If a conventional circuit breaker or fuse blows, the driver needs to physically reset it. With a PDM you can program it to wait a certain time before retrying a circuit a set number of times. You can also log the current on each circuit which can show when components are ready to fail.
