Looking at some SSD storage options and testing out a BT mouse and the internal speaker.

For a laptop O/S, using the internal SD card is not a viable option. The constant writing to the card will wear it out too fast. So I wanted to look at some SSD options. Now the RPi only has USB2, so any connections via that will be somewhat limited in speed.

To enable USB support, in the config.txt file on the SD card, add lines:
program_usb_boot_mode=1
max_usb_current=1
Reboot the RPi and those settings should take effect. The first enables booting from USB, the second bumps the max. current from 0.6 to 1.2 amps. These options will not work on earlier RPi models, mine is a model 3B+.

I picked up a BT mouse in a matching green color, it seems to work quite well. In the pi-topOS, you need to exit the initial screen to the regular desktop for it to start working:

Initially, I picked up a QNINE mSATA Adapter, mSATA to USB Adapter. That worked for a while then quit. So I picked up a different brand, Tanbin Mini mSATA SSD Adapter To USB 3.0:

and a Samsung 860-EVO mSATA SSD:

The internal speaker uses the I2C, so you need to select that option in the Sound menu.

More to come...
