Remembering the Beginnings - A Century of Aerial Warfare at AirVenture 2016
When World War I began in 1914, that new-fangled machine, the aeroplane, was only 11 years old and still a fragile box kite of questionable use. Four short years later, a frantic worldwide burst of mechanical creativity had transformed it into a three-dimensional threat to all perceived enemies. Take a look back at some of the meticulously recreated or restored airplanes that came to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016 to help us commemorate aviation’s role in “the war to end all wars.”
