George Platen is at the crossroads. It is time for a career to be chosen, something which happens to everyone automatically when they "get educated," a process which happens in a few minutes with wires attached to one's head. But George is not to be educated. What will he do with his life now? And what about that dastardly man who decided that he would not get educated but instead reside at the House for the Feeble-minded? What is really going on here? This is one of my most favorite Asimov stories, after Foundation, and one I can't recommend highly enough. It also got the cover of Astounding Science Fiction, a place where an Asimov story had not appeared in quite some time (though two other Astounding covers not mentioned in this short story series occurred when his novels The Currents of Space and The Naked Sun were serialized). As originally presented, not only the cover but also the illustrations within are particular worth mentioning.
