Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Center Across Selection: A Better Way to Center Titles in Excel MrExcel Netcast.
Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this episode, we'll be discussing a handy Excel feature that many users may not be aware of - Center Across Selection. This feature allows you to easily center a title or label across multiple cells without the need for merging cells.
During a conversation with a viewer from Czech, I was demonstrating how to center a title in Excel. The viewer asked if there was a way to move the title to a different column and right justify it. That's when I introduced them to Center Across Selection. By selecting the title and the cells you want it centered above, and then using the shortcut Ctrl 1 or the dialogue launcher, you can easily center the title across the selected cells.
Some viewers may be familiar with the Merge and Center feature, which can also be used to center a title across multiple cells. However, there are some drawbacks to using this feature. For example, if you try to expand your selection after merging cells, the merged cells will also expand, creating multiple columns. This can be frustrating and can cause issues when trying to sort data. That's why I prefer using Center Across Selection instead.
Although Center Across Selection is not readily available on the ribbon, it can be found by using the dialogue launcher under the alignment tab. So next time you need to center a title or label across multiple cells, give Center Across Selection a try. It's a much more efficient and user-friendly option compared to merging cells.
