Daredevil, aka Matt Murdock, first appeared in his own comic book, published on April 10, 1964. Matt is unlike other superheroes in that he is disabled and was blinded as a child by chemicals in his eyes. However, he has acquired heightened senses and the ability to sense objects around him, similar to sonar. His sense of touch is strong enough to detect faint ink marks on paper, allowing him to read by touch. He can also sense subtle changes in temperature and pressure, enough to pinpoint a person's position from 1.5 meters away. Daredevil's enhanced hearing allows him to detect acoustic pressure changes as small as 1 decibel. For example, he can hear a heartbeat from 6 meters away.
