Understanding Engineering Campus/interview Placement Process by

To begin with, it was an honour to get a chance to address my juniors of Computer Science and Engineering department concerning campus placements.
It was a challenging task to be able to express my little share of experiences which I have been able to accumulate in the past few months when it comes to placements. To start with, I started by giving a general roadmap of a generic IT company recruitment process.
The first step was an entrance test, on clearing which the candidate would move further onto the interview phases. The most important parts of the entrance test are Aptitude Section, English Section followed by Programming aptitude and Coding.
I tried to give an idea about how I prepared for the entrance tests. According to me the most vital part of cracking these tests is to practice aptitude questions regularly as the aptitude section is compulsory in all the tests of most IT companies. Consistency is the key.
When targeting IT-based companies, Programming is one of the sections which cannot be ignored. Although our syllabus covers most of the core theoretical concepts, Programming and solving problems in the tests is something that needs a lot of practice.
I then ventured to give a basic overview of how some online coding practice sites like Hackerrank and Hackerrearth work and how one can utilize them for placement preparation. Also in today's evolving world making an online presence is a must and sites like Github.com and Linkedin.com help us to do the exact same.
An updated Linkedin profile can eventually get you under the radar of many recruiters online. Once the initial screening test is cleared, half the battle is won. The interview phases are mostly to test your communication skills and confidence.
A well-prepared resume is very essential. I shared with the students some sites like Canva.com and Novoresume.com which I personally used to draft my resume. I also shared some tips on preparing for the interviews, the most important of which would be to try to attend as many mock interviews as possible which would prepare you for the questions which may be asked. Also, researching a bit about the company beforehand is also really helpful.
The short discussion was then followed by questions which students were keen to put forth. I tried to answer them to the best of my ability.
One of the questions asked was: “How did you balance academics and Placement”.
This question really made me think. According to placements and academics are not two completely separate entities. Most of the questions asked in the placement tests are the same which we have been studying in our syllabus. So we just need to manage our time efficiently and try to practice bit by bit whenever we get time. Regular practice will substantially reduce the workload and whenever a placement opportunity crops up we would be more equipped to face it.
I was really taken aback by the attention and patience with which the students listened to the session which prolonged to almost forty-five minutes.
Finally, I would like really to extend my gratitude to the KLS VDIT Training and Placement Cell for giving me an opportunity to interact with the students. I can say for sure that we have a huge pool of talent which will achieve many great things in the coming future. Wishing all my juniors all the very best in their future endeavors and I hope they are able to achieve whatever they aspire.
