Lazy Lion Grooming Himself
Here, one of the dominant male Lions on Manyoni Private Game Reserve was enjoying the afternoon sun and decided that it was a good time to groom himself.
Lions will spend a huge amount of time each day grooming themselves.This is not because lions are fastidious, they are removing unwanted insects, like parasites and dirt from their fur.
Lions use the barbs on their rough tongues to comb and clean their fur. This will also help remove as much of their scent as possible, which will assist them when hunting as their prey will not be able to smell them
when they are downwind.
