To format a bootable USB or pendrive back to a normal pendrive using the Command Prompt (CMD) in Windows, you can follow these steps:
Note: Formatting a bootable USB will erase all data on it. Make sure you have backed up any important files before proceeding.
1- Connect the bootable USB or pendrive to your computer.
2- Open the Command Prompt. You can do this by pressing the Windows key + R, typing "cmd," and then pressing Enter.
3- In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:
diskpart
4- A new diskpart window will open. Type the following command and press Enter to list all the disks on your computer:
list disk
5- Look for the disk number corresponding to your bootable USB or pendrive in the "Disk " list. Make sure you identify the correct disk number to avoid formatting the wrong drive.
6- Once you have identified the correct disk number, type the following command and press Enter:
select disk disk_number
Replace disk_number with the actual disk number of your bootable USB or pendrive.
7- Type the following command to clean the disk and press Enter:
clean
8- After the cleaning process is complete, type the following command to create a new partition:
create partition primary
9- Type the following command to select the new partition:
select partition 1
10- To format the partition, type the following command and press Enter:
exit
After following these steps, your bootable USB or pendrive should be formatted back to a normal pendrive with the file system you selected.
