Fitting rat flaps in drainage/sewer systems is something we do on a regular basis. We have found that 90% of domestic rat infestations were the home owner can't get rid of the rats permanently are rats escaping from the sewer system under their house or a neighbours' house.
To fit a rat flap properly there must be a sewer survey carried out so that the flap is fitted to the correct pipe, guessing is a fools game and it will usually end up being an expensive mistake.
The sewer system must be pressure jetted to remove any debris that's in the system. If this is not done, rubble and spoil will get washed down to the flap, the spoil will start to hold the flap open and rats will be able to get past the rat flap.
