Back in the day, in order to rank for a keyword on Google, you'd have to:
→ Add the exact match keyword to the title
→ Place the exact match keyword at the front of the title
→ Minimize the amount of extra 'non-keyword' words

And as a bonus, you could also keyword stuff the title with multiple keywords separated by dashes.

Being forced to include the exact match keyword in the title is no longer valid or required. In fact, many results no longer have the exact match keyword in the title (indicating it is no longer the best title tag best practices)

However, this isn't a fix rule for every single keyword. Some results still show quite a few exact matches in the title.

So is this because those pages have other ranking factors (backlinks, on-page etc), or does Google still prefer exact match titles for some keywords?

But what we do know for sure is that exact match titles are no longer the norm on the first page, but if you optimize other factors, they can still rank #1.

So what are the NEW rules for getting titles to rank?

→ #1 The title is now LESS important as a pure ranking factor (less weight)
→ #2 Although they hold less weight, CTR seems to be more important
→ #3 Keyword length impacts prominence
→ #4 Links & CTR overpowers titles

Keep watching to find out more on how to craft near perfect SEO optimized titles, increase click through rate while ranking #1 on Google SERPs.
