This very basic tutorial for my friends and respected senior citizens who are very new to blender, shows how to use a background image as a reference to make a quick 3d model.
Here you get the rudimentary idea of how to import a background image into Blender and use a vertex to construct your model using Extrude ( E key) and grab/move (G Key).
Experiment more with importing- you can stretch, resize even change the colour, transparency or viewing angle of the imported image from the properties menu ( shortcut key N).
