Printing Flexible Electronics

Abstract
Additive printing of electronic materials enables rapid design changes, reduces processing steps, and allows low-temperature patterning that is compatible with a wide range of materials. Low-cost printed electronics are compelling for applications that require large area of distributed devices, such as in human-computer interfaces. In this talk, I will present the advantages and limitations of printed devices, and then discuss how to integrate systems that enable new form factors and applications of flexible sensors and actuators. We will examine the design guidelines used in the course of developing pixelated sensor platforms and the approaches to improve tolerance of variations in printed electronics.

Biography
Dr. Tse Nga Tina Ng joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UC San Diego as Acting Associate Professor in November 2015. Prior to this, she was Senior Research Scientist at Palo Alto Research Center. Her work on printed systems has received the 2012 Innovation Award from Flextech Alliance and has been named Runner-up for the 2012 Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award. Tina received her M.S. and Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Cornell University, under Professor John Marohn on the development of scanning probe microscopy techniques to study device physics in thin-film semiconductors.
