Mary Blandy, an 18th-century figure, gained notoriety for poisoning her father, Francis Blandy, in 1751. Influenced by her lover, Captain William Cranstoun, who manipulated her into believing that a powder he supplied was a love potion that she was to use to convince her father to allow their union. Mary administered the powder to her father's meals, and he quickly fell ill.
