Where and how to catch chub. Finding promising spots for catching chub with wobblers.
Where to look? It's clear that trying to catch chub by random chance, fishing large areas, is completely pointless...
After the river returns to its channel in the spring, chub chooses a very small area to hunt.
Cover in the river's riffles. Areas with slow currents under steep banks, with overhanging tree canopies and bushes. Large chub prefer to hang out in fairly calm and deep water, but in close proximity to rapids.
Of course, they bite in the most open, even turbulent riffles. But they always hang out there
behind some kind of cover that slows the current.
To find promising spots on rivers, look for trees and bushes overhanging the banks, from which all kinds of insects fall into the water. Shallow, fast-moving shallows, where long strands of underwater vegetation stretch along the current, are also excellent.
Chubs love to hang out at the edges of calm and turbulent water, standing near eddies or breakers, waiting for a fallen insect or a small fish tired from struggling in the fast water to float downstream.
