A VPN, or virtual private network, is a way of creating a secure connection over the Internet between a device and a network. VPNs are widely used in corporate environments to protect sensitive data and enable remote work. Cisco offers several types of VPN solutions for different use cases and needs. Here are some of them:
Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client
This is a client-based VPN solution that allows users to connect to the corporate network from any device, anywhere, using SSL or IPsec protocols. It also provides advanced features such as posture assessment, multifactor authentication, and endpoint protection. Cisco AnyConnect is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and Chrome OS devices.
Cisco Meraki Auto VPN
This is a site-to-site VPN solution that automatically creates secure tunnels between branch offices and headquarters using the Meraki cloud. It simplifies the configuration and management of VPN connections, and supports dynamic routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF. Cisco Meraki Auto VPN also integrates with third-party security services such as Cisco Umbrella and Duo Security.
Cisco Group Encrypted Transport (GET) VPN
This is a WAN encryption solution that encrypts data in transit between multiple sites without requiring point-to-point tunnels. It uses a group key that is distributed by a key server to all members of the VPN group. Cisco GET VPN preserves the original IP header of the packets, which allows for efficient routing and QoS policies. It also supports multicast traffic and high availability features.
Cisco Dynamic Multipoint VPN (DMVPN)
This is a scalable VPN solution that creates on-demand tunnels between spoke sites and a hub site or between spoke sites directly. It uses multipoint GRE tunnels and Next Hop Resolution Protocol (NHRP) to dynamically discover the IP addresses of the tunnel endpoints. It also supports IPsec encryption and dynamic routing protocols such as EIGRP and BGP.
