30 Filmmaking Tips | Day 13: Shot Composition
Filmmakers carefully compose each shot, just like a chef plates each dish. Here are a few techniques we use to create visually engaging shots:
Rule of Thirds – Divide the frame into a 3x3 grid. Placing your subject along one of the grid lines or intersections creates a more balanced shot.
Foreground and Background – Including elements in both foreground and background adds depth, emphasizing the subject’s relationship to the environment 🌆
Over-the-Shoulder Shot – Often used in conversations, this shows the orientation and placement of characters, adding context to the story 🎬
Use these techniques to guide attention and deepen the impact of your story!
