How does this bird manage to eat a whole bone without even choking? The Lammergeier is the only known animal whose diet can consist almost entirely of bones. This bird also enjoys bone marrow, which it obtains by cracking bones by dropping them from a height onto rocks and cliffs. Surprisingly, the Lammergeier feeds even its chicks primarily bones up to twenty centimeters long. This bird's secret lies in the highly acidic gastric juice, which allows it to quickly dissolve swallowed bones.
