Are you so "ready" that you take way too long to aim and fire?

There’s a problem that plagues creators of all kinds. It’s like an epidemic.
Working on a screenplay? A TV Pilot? A graphic novel? A book of collected stories? Whatever project you’re working on, there’s a 97.2 percent chance you’re a victim of this epidemic.
The problem is you’re still operating under the “Ready, Aim, Fire!” principle. You’re taking months to get ready and aim. You’re trying to get everything perfect before you fire. That’s not how you create a successful piece of work.
Try this instead: “Fire, Aim, Ready!”
Fire as soon as possible, as quickly as possible, and—this is key—as often as possible.
Instead of spending six months writing a TV pilot script, for example, write it in a week, then write another one next week, and then write another one the week after that.
Then “Aim” after each one—that is, get feedback on each script. Adjust your approach on the next one, etc.
In six months, you’ll have written 24 TV pilot scripts — imagine that!
Do you think you’ll be better at writing TV pilots after that? Guaranteed you will.
Then you’re ready.
