Dr Khan has pointed out a few points, i.e.:
It all depends on your optional subject, is it related to the other GS
subjects like, history, PSIR etc. or is it some special optional like mathematics, physics etc.
You need to study the optional in more depth and GS gives you a variety of topics to study.
GS requires a lot of revision, as there are many topics and you may forget one or two topics.
Do finish your optional 3-4 months before the upsc prelims exam. Do not study optional 3 months before the prelims as it is not included in that exam.
The day you give the prelims exam, just tighten your belts and study for the optional until you get the result of the prelims exams.
