The Norwegian/British creative direction and design team of Kjell Ekhorn and Jon Forss have worked together as Non-Format since 2000 on print-based projects for art, music, fashion, advertising clients. This video for Euro-pop band The Chap is their debut as motion directors.
"The cover of The Chap album, from which the track "Even Your Friend" is taken, features an exploding fireball shaped liked a child's teddy bear. This surreal use of animal imagery is a continuing theme for The Chap (their previous albums all feature animals in one way or another) and so it continues with the use of an old-fashioned police identikit which mixes the facial features of the band members along with those of a wide variety of wild animals.
"A succession of eyes, noses and mouths flash across the screen at a ferocious pace as the song's themes of loss and betrayal unfold. As a counterpoint to all this yearning, key words from the more upbeat chorus charge across the screen in a special typeface that's structured to echo the three-paneled identikit. The video was assembled and edited in Adobe After Effects using still images and vector typography."
