Garden treasure wanted: Planted courtyard in Rosenheim
A fountain in a green courtyard as a garden treasure? Definitely for Benjamin Donner from Rosenheim! The fountain with a seating area surrounded by many plants got him through a difficult time.
We're convinced everyone has a garden treasure. And Sabrina Nitsche wants to find it. In each episode, she travels to a different community in Bavaria. Through chance encounters, she gets to know people and their garden treasures. The goal is for one of them to show her their personal treasure. This could be a plant, a special place in the garden, or an object that the person has a strong connection with.
In this episode, Sabrina is traveling in Rosenheim and meets Benjamin Donner. The young caretaker takes the presenter into his courtyard. His garden treasure is a fountain with a seating area. The fountain comforted him when he was suffering from a serious illness. And it inspires him for his poetry slams and texts, which he performs in Rosenheim and posts on his Instagram account.
When Benjamin moved into the apartment three years ago and took over the building's caretaker duties, he began landscaping the courtyard. The north side was planted only with ivy. He removed some of the lower section, leaving the oldest stems standing, and planted the resulting beds with perennials and shrubs that can cope with low light. These included irises, hydrangeas, and a few ferns. During the summer, the courtyard is full of houseplants. And then there are 50 agaves, a find in the classified ad. In the summer, they are kept in the courtyard. He brings the plants to the greenhouse in his mother's garden to overwinter.
