Designing Victorian Boots
In shoemaking, before the leather is cut, the uppers stitched, or the heel built, we need a good pair of lasts. The wooden shape is carved and sanded to fit the style and the foot. Then a pattern can be taken and filled in with all the details. For this project I was venturing into the 1890s, which has a very unusual shape and style. I had to start from scratch!
