Very often, when I talk to customers, I notice some confusion about the various components that make up an industrial fan.
This doesn't surprise me. In fact, it's completely normal for two simple reasons:
1) First, a fan is fully assembled when it's in operation, so it's impossible to see inside.
2) We fan engineers have a bad habit of using big words that only insiders understand, almost as if we wanted to keep customers in the dark about innocuous terms like "impeller," "hub," "volute," etc.
Since I happened upon this half-assembled centrifugal fan while drinking coffee in the workshop, I thought I'd make this video so you can see for yourself how it's made, including inside.
I hope that after watching the video, when you're dealing with an industrial fan—whether it's buying a new one or discussing maintenance with your supplier—it'll be easier for you to understand what they're saying.
