The Siberian silkworm damages about 20 species of conifers from the genera Larix (larch), Abies (fir), Pinus (pine), Picea (spruce) and Tsuga (hemlock). During the outbreak of mass reproduction, the gray forests deprived of needles, affected by the silkworm ("silkworms"), are clearly visible from the air when flying over large areas of the taiga.
