MQTT Q&A: MQTT Over UDP? How MQTT-SN Can Help.
Does MQTT work over UDP? The short answer to this question is: no. MQTT does not work with UDP.
Why does MQTT over UDP not work?
MQTT requires TCP and its underlying guarantees. These requirements make MQTT over UDP impossible.
However, there can be use cases with wireless sensor networks, where only UDP is an option. In this case, MQTT SN (MQTT for sensor networks) is a possible solution. MQTT SN is a different and less popular specification than MQTT. It is mostly used in open-source content. For professional use cases with internet connectivity available, MQTT will usually be preferred before MQTT SN.
