🤔Would you travel w/ me if I said…
you might experience:
✨Blackouts & power cuts
✨Occasional cold water bath
LUXURY REDEFINED
…But we'd eat under candlelight
…Learn how to cook with produce picked from the garden
…And the stars would shine brighter in the night sky
👉BTW- Part II of my Nepal homestay video just dropped on YouTube ! Check out the full story. 🔗 in BIO.
🕯️NEPALI ROMANCE
Cooking, eating and bathing by candlelight was something I experienced my first night of my Hemjakot homestay.
In Nepal, occasional blackouts were once a deliberate government strategy to encourage generator sales. Though improvements have been made, remote villages like Hemjakot /Pokhara still face infrequent power cuts, with the entire village reliant on a single switch.
I call it #ambiance.
🌾GURUNG HOMESTAY MINDSET
The Gurung people's connection to the land is profound. They are known for living off the land, raising livestock and farming.
But it's more than just sustenance; it's a lesson in mindful living and sustainability. Garlic, tomatoes, potatoes, millet, corn from Devi's farm… equates to meals of dhal baat, rice, roti, salad and popped corn.
REAL "farm-to-table" fresh from a tradition that's only ever practiced it.
BTW- this also inspired a green 👍 when I returned home. You have to watch my video!
✨COMMUNITY TOURISM
Supporting marginalized communities through homestays like @Communityhomestaynetwork empowers them. Check out my YT video on @panauticommunityhomestay if seeking one near Kathmandu.
Hosts, like Devi Gurung, send their children to cities for better education, a cost requiring money.
For travelers, it's unique lodgings, a culinary experience and a chance to reset in the mountains-an authentic escape better than any resort!
