What do animals know about their social and ecological environments, how do they learn, and how do they use that information in adaptive ways? Field Biologists, Shermin de Silva, Postdoctoral Fellow at Colorado State University and Sara Benson-Amram, Assistant Professor at University of Wyoming, have spent numerous years studying the intelligence, social structure and vocal communications of wild elephants and hyenas in Sri Lanka and Africa.
