My girlfriend put too many towels in my 30 year old washer and started it on fire. Thank god it was just the belt melting. We priced new washers $399+ and I decided to replace the belt $6 online or $25 from the local parts store. Being overwhelmed with instructions I figured, take the risk worst case I'll buy a new machine, sure enough it was fairly easy.
You'll need a replacement belt with instructions, can of wd-40, ratchet set with 1/2" & 9/16", wrench large enough to unscrew the water hoses, you may want to replace the hoses as well $15 - $25 as well, towel you will get some water spilling out maybe a few cups, maybe a little oil. Tipping it over and standing it up will be about 60lbs or so, you may need a friend.
Took me about an hour and I've never done this before, not to mention I don't do much mechanical work but I can read blue prints and design in cad.
