A lot of countries have promoted lunar missions in the 21st century and many researches have been carried out in Korea as well. On this week’s #Hash_Tech, we look into the rise of KPLO, or Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter, which is Korea’s first lunar probe. It looks similiar to satellites, but it has implemented a lot of core technologies. It can explore the moon with three different cameras and the filmed images can be send immediately to the Earth through the internet connectivity in space. Also, among different transfer trajectories, ballistic lunar transfer trajectory has been introduced. It takes a long period of time and it is difficult to control. However, it enables more studies by consuming less fuel, so it is expected to provide a new discovery in the moon. We look into the ongoing development of KPLO, which will lead the domestic field of space exploration.
21세기로 접어들며 많은 나라들이 달 탐사에 도전하는 가운데 국내에서도 달 탐사를 위한연구가 한창이다. 이에 [#Hash_Tech]에서는 대한민국의 첫 달 탐사 궤도선, ‘KPLO’의 개발 현장을 찾아가본다. KPLO는 인공위성과 흡사한 모양을 지녔지만 다양한 기술들의 혼합체라고 해도 무방할 만큼 많은 기술을 보유하고 있다. 3가지의 카메라를 통해 달을 관찰하는데, 놀라운 점은 이때 촬영된 자료들은 우주인터넷을 통해 달에서 지구로 곧장 전송이 가능하다는 부분이다. 또한 탐사선이 달까지 도달하는 항행항법기술 또한 눈여겨볼만 하다. 달로 향하는 항법 중 가장 고도의 기술을 요하는 BLT 궤도 항법을 사용하는데 달까지 도달하는데 걸리는 시간이 길고 제어 또한 어렵지만 적은 연료로 더 많은 연구를 할 수 있어 달에서의 새로운 발견을 기대할 수 있다. 대한민국의 본격적인 우주 탐사 시대의 교두보가 될 ‘KPLO’의 열띤 개발 현장을 만나본다.
