If you are installing a Holley Sniper 2 on any Vintage Vehicle you definitey should watch this. 9 min could save you days of hunting an start up issue. We installed a Sniper 2 EFI on the Traveler but there was an issue. We just couldn't get it to start up easy. Ran great after we got it started, but starting was terrible. After we noticed a reboot on the computer during cranking we figured it out the issue and solved the problem. Check it out! #holleysniper2
Learn something new every time I work on the Scout, And every time I post a video….. here is some Scout II specific information from Bill Hamilton of the Hamilton EFI. “Yes, adding a relay the way you did it was one way of bypassing the actual problem.
Good job.
BUT
Sniper/any EFI system states power must be there in key on and during cranking.
On the 79 scout, which used a prestolite distr, there is no power through the tumbler.
The switch is down on top of the column under the dash and has slots to adjust the position and is moved via a push rod from the tumbler
Earlier points scouts used a second wire from the starter solenoid to the + side of coil to bypass the ballast resistor.
If adding a relay, most will take the 12v going to the coil (before the resistive wire or ballast resistor) and use it to power a relay so it applies direct Battery voltage to the system.
This wire is marked with a 16 near the terminal.
Most of this is covered in the injection tech forum on www.binderplanet.com
Here's a link to the replacement ignition switch.
HTH, here's the link to the switch.
